Abstract

Adolfo Vásquez Alonso (Asturias, October 27, 1937 - Madrid, July 29, 2017) was a missionary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who arrived in Guatemala from Asturias, Spain, in the 1960s. Father Vásquez Alonso became interested in knowing and recording indigenous traditions, since he was sent to San Pedro Jocopilas and then to Santa María Nebaj, both municipalities of Quiché.

Anthropologist, ethnomusicologist. Senior researcher at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. Author of various articles on his specialty. Editor of the Journal of Ethnomusicology Senderos.
