Abstract

From February to April 2011, at the wastewater treatment plant Aurora II, Zone 13 in Guatemala City, it was evaluated the effect of irrigation with primary sedimentation wastewater on growth and development of three different species of bamboo (Gigantochloaaspera, Guaduaangustifolia and Phyllostachysaurea). After the experimental phase, information was collected on 8 morphometric characteristics of the species assessed so that, with the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple testing of means with Tukey comparison, it could establish whether there were significant differences between the plants watered with residual water and irrigated with potable water treatment, which was used as control. As was seen with statistical and qualitative analysis, the best results in growth and development were obtained in the plants irrigated with water from the primary clarifier, which was verified with the results made on nutrient concentrations in the laboratory of Soil and Water from the Faculty of Agronomy of the USAC.
