Uso de almidón de yuca como sustituto del sulfato de aluminio en el proceso de coagulación-floculación

Central America has variety of natural polymers that can be used as assistants in the process of coagulation-flocculation , of this account, the study with the aim of replacing the aluminum sulphate in the coagulation-flocculation process is presented , by testing water samples prepared in the laboratory by means of kaolin clay. After determining the optimal dose of aluminum sulfate was replaced by cassava starch proportionally. It was determined that it can be replaced by cassava starch 40% , turbidity values obtained at the end of coagulation - flocculation process at or below 5 NTU ( NTG maximum tolerance limits COGUANOR Standard 29001). This because the cassava starch is a natural polymer. (Arboleda et al, (1975)). The research showed that from a technical point of view, if the replacement of aluminum sulfate cassava starch possible, but to make the economic analysis shows that the application of this technology would represent very high costs both in terms of view production of the raw material and the impact it could have on the means of subsistence developed in most communities living in poverty.
