Abstract

This article treats about the efficiency of the Effective Microorganisms (EM) applied in the treatment plant wastewater San Cristóbal (Panorama), Mixco, Guatemala. For the study, twenty composed samples were taken of inlet and outlet of the treatment plant; it was done between June and September 2011. This treatment plant had a removal efficiency of organic matter 29,53 % once having applied the microorganisms it was obtained an increased of 19,07 %. The value of the microorganisms represent 14,93 % of the annual operation and maintenance of the plan, this percentage is less than the increase in efficiency, therefore, it is feasible to implement Effective Microorganisms (EM) into the wastewater. It should be taken in consideration that actually enters a flow of 20 l/s; and this one was designed to treat a flow of 4,83 l/s, so, there is a surplus flow of 75,85 %, otherwise, the efficiency could increased.
