Abstract

The water quality index WQI are simplified expressions of a set of variables and have proved effective in conveying information about water quality, the result of their application must be a number between 0 and 100. For this article analyzed water quality index WQI-NSF for human consumption Teocinte and Acatán rivers that supply the water treatment plant Santa Luisa zone 16, sampling points being the Teocinte 18 "Teocinte 20" and Acatán. The values of each parameter are: Dissolved oxygen: 0.17; fecal coliform: 0.15; pH: 0.12; DBO 5: 0.10; nitrates: 0.10; phosphates: 0.10; temperature: 0.10; turbidity: 0.08 and total solids: 0.08. That concluded that the value of WQI for Teocinte river is: 45.26; this indicates that water values are in the range limit poor quality water can only support low diversity of aquatic life and are experiencing contamination problems, however the range indicates that it is still suitable for treatment for human consumption. Acatán river for the value of WQI are: 55.35; This data indicates that the water is in the range of medium quality, due to the water generally have less diversity of aquatic organisms and often have increased algae growth, being suitable for processing for human consumption. Is recommended monthly monitoring, in order to have a database that can generate information on the quality of river water each.
