This musical group was founded in 1936 with the name of Orquesta Liberal Progresista, during the government of the president and military man Jorge Ubico Castañeda, who led the country for fourteen years, from February 14, 1931 to July 1, 1944. The July 11, 1944, through a presidential agreement signed by Federico Ponce Vaides, the first person appointed to the presidency of the Republic, the change was approved of his name to the National Symphony Orchestra of Guatemala (OSN).
