Competencies required by employers: Perspective of graduates of the University Center of El Progreso

Abstract

The present study seeks to know the experiences of graduates when integrating into the labor sector and facing challenges, such as the demands of employers, the current crises of a social, economic and health nature: in the careers of Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Legal and Social Sciencies, Lawyer and Notary, Secondary School Teachers in Mathematics and Physics, Secondary Teachers in Pedagogy And Administration Technician, Bachelor of Pedagogy And Educational Administration, in terms of their employability to know their perceptions about the graduation profile and its effectiveness. The general objective is to identify the competencies that employers require according to the criteria of the professionals graduated according to their experiences in labor hiring situations. The methodological approach was qualitative, cross-sectional with a descriptive design and phenomenological scope. It was shown that 48.8% work in the public sector, 35.8% in private, and 15.4% are a relevant part of the enterprise. Regarding soft and hard skills, the results show that both are important for graduates. Within the process of academic training, it is important that strategies are implemented that allow the knowledge acquired to be put into practice in environments simulated to the real ones, that guarantee them a previous experience, and comply with the required standards in the labor field.

Mirna Yanett Ferrera Castillo

Magister en Docencia Universitaria con distinción cum laude por Universidad Da Vinci,   Licenciada en Pedagogía y Administración Educativa y Profesora de Enseñanza Media en Ciencias Económicas Contables de la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, postgrado en habilidades docentes del Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey México, con 20 experiencia docente a nivel universitario y 31 años con experiencia en la administración educativa, 6 años experiencia en el campo de la investigación, 4 años de experiencia como asesora de centros educativos privados, docente asesora de tesis y ejercicio profesional supervisado.

Abad Bruce Alberto Herrera lima

Es investigador en temas de estudios superiores para el Centro Universitario de El Progreso de la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. Tiene una certificación avalada por FranklinCovey como especialista en implementar procesos de estrategia y ejecución. Apasionado por la educación aplicando modelos de enseñanza desde un enfoque andragógico. Cuenta con experiencia en docencia universitaria por más de 8 años, en los cuales ha impartido cursos de investigación de mercados y administración de operaciones.  Además, es facilitador de temas de mercadotecnia y tecnología para la Cámara de la Industria de Guatemala.

Donald W. González Aguilar

Licenciado en Ciencias Psicológicas, especialidad en Psicología Social por la Escuela de Ciencias Psicológicas y MSc. en Educación Superior en la Facultad de Humanidades, ambos de la Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC). Corrector de estilo de publicaciones científicas por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Con estudios de postgrado de estadística avanzada, investigación cultural, Mindfulness y Terapia breve.

Hardis Eunice López Carías

Licenciada en Pedagogía y Administración Educativa, Profesora de Enseñanza Media en Pedagogía y Técnico en Administración Educativa, Perito Contador en Computación, con experiencia en área administrativa y docencia. Conocimientos y experiencia en el arte culinario, organización de eventos y Floristería. Apasionada por el servicio al prójimo y a la sociedad en general.

Edgar Leonel Artiga Juárez

Licenciado en Pedagogía y Administración Educativa, apasionado por la investigación, sancarlista; docente de arte con la especialidad de dibujo y pintura, docente en el nivel medio de contabilidad, estadística, filosofía y legislación Fiscal; oriundo del municipio de Morazán, del departamento de El Progreso, graduado con la distinción summa cum laude y acreedor de los reconocimientos a la Excelencia Académica del Estudiante Universitario 2019 y Liderazgo Estudiantil 2020 de la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala.

Cristopher Miguel Godinez Ortiz

Estudiante de la Carrera de Licenciatura en Administración de Empresas en el Centro Universitario de El Progreso de la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (CUNPROGRESO-USAC), actualmente cursando el último semestre. Lo distingue su gran liderazgo estudiantil que lo ha llevado a desempeñarse en dos periodos como representante electo de los estudiantes ante el Consejo Directivo de este centro de estudios. Durante su trayectoria estudiantil se ha caracterizado por ser un gran amigo e impulsar y apoyar proyectos académicos y comunitarios que han beneficiado a la población estudiantil del CUNPROGRESO.
