Grinder women and compulsory labor
Abstract
This 1892 document (transcript of the General Archive of Central America, Signature B, File 28837, file 3527) is a request from the principals (men) of San Juan Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, so that women are not forced to work as grinders in State institutions. This petition has its own arguments in the document that somehow creates, in the mentalities of both men and women, an incipient awareness to build equality between women and men, which was finally officially resolved in favor of women in the past period of liberal reform.
