From November 30 to December 12, 2015, the twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) was held in Paris. The Paris Climate Summit concluded with the approval of the Paris Agreement, a historic agreement to combat climate change, crucial for the promotion of low-emission, climate-resilient and sustainable development. Guatemala signed it on April 22, 2016 and ratified it on January 25, 2017.
