Worldwide worry about environmental deterioration
Keywords:
Human environment, climate change, environmental pact, climate system, international environmental instrumentsAbstract
International environmental covenants recognize the enormous vulnerability of human beings
to the extreme natural phenomena suffered by current generations. Containing the deterioration of the ecosystems that surround populations is an action of survival, more than of environmental awareness, especially for highly vulnerable countries. Reaching a national pact for the environment in Guatemala implies prioritizing adaptation to climate change immediately. It is urgent that we all assume the responsibility to mitigate and overcome the social impacts of climate variability, as it has reduced competitiveness, destroys infrastructure, deteriorates human welfare and postpones the fight against poverty and food sustainability.
